Magic, Wonder & Joy

14,975 feet of ribbon, 350 candles, 33,800 ornaments, 22,100 bells and 98 trees decked the White House halls.

In 2023, more than 300 volunteers decorated the White House for the holiday season. The theme, established by First Lady Jill Biden as “Magic, Wonder, and Joy,” was inspired by the way children experience the holiday, from making crafts to writing letters to Santa Claus. The East Wing was decorated to evoke the feeling of lying beneath a Christmas tree, gazing up at the lights, ornaments, and branches above. Candy and treats floated overhead as guests entered the East Wing.
